Breaking News!
Rod Douglas, the former stand out Olympian and pro boxer has joined the Executive Committee of the WSO.
Douglas was one of Britain's hottest properties before a brutal British title fight loss against a peak Herol Graham in 1989 forced him to retire because of severe injuries sustained in the contest.
" I totally deplore the Boxing Board of Control and everything they stand for " said Douglas in a statement today. " Everything they're saying with regards to Haye v Chisora is phoney and I deplore them taking the moral high ground when they do nothing for retired boxers. After my injury they employed me for two years but I earned less than if I had been on the dole. They organised a benefit night but the promoter absconded with all the money and they refused to allow me to attend the disciplinary for reasons best known to them.
So having got very little I quit in disgust. If there are several new Boards as a result of this Haye Chisora thing then it's not before time, the sport needs it not the other way around. They've had a monopoly for too long and given the nature of boxing it's not healthy." commented Douglas.
Douglas now runs the Arches Gym in Bethnal Green and can be contacted on 07970678226

Ben Macdonald, a middleweight from Plumstead by way of Great Yarmouth will make his semi pro debut against rugged Tony Aitken from the DeLeslie camp at the Saturday 18th Tolworth Rec show. Macdonald,0-0, has taken this fight at short notice and could find it hard to adapt to boxing from kickboxing. Aitken, a tall rangy type with some power, comes off a stoppage win in his first contest on Mean Machines last event.
Heavyweight Stan Wilson from Slough is now licensed by the WSO and is eligable to box for our tile belts. Stan will be boxing on MeanMachines February 18th show in SW London and we have sanctioned his bout for the vacant London Championship belt.
